“I am so fat.
I have no idea what I am doing.
I am not good enough.
I hate my body.
I am ashamed of myself.
These were the inner conversations that led me to be 212lbs, bulimic, depressed, addicted to drugs and exercise, and feeling lonely. Then I finally realized that it didn’t matter what the outer conversation was or what others thought of me; it was my secret, silent thoughts that determined my unhappy state. I created the intenSati Method to train myself to rewrite my inner conversations while also training my body. This accelerated my results – it lead me to lose and keep off 60lbs, and it helped heal my eating disorder, overcome my depression and create a movement.”
This is how I began my opening talk at an entrepreneurs’ mastermind this past weekend. As I was preparing for this talk, I remembered that the ability to become aware of and choose the inner conversations I have with myself is the single most important muscle I need to continually train and develop. And yes, it is just like a muscle: with use it becomes strong and capable and without use it becomes weak.
I am sure there isn’t a person reading this that would not agree that it is better to be positive, to love yourself, or to develop a positive mental attitude than to stay in a negative state. But knowing what to do and actually doing it are two very different things. And that’s why it’s important to become the master of your state.
“If to do were as easy as to know what were good to do we all would be everything we want to be in this world.” – Neville Goddard
I want to give you an exercise that will help you FLIP your negative conversations to positive invocations. Affirmations are great but we want to also be able to retrain ourselves to shed light on the secret silent thoughts that are flowing through our mind.
Pick three words that you associate with who you really are. Mine are: Bold, Kind and Authentic.
Keep a negative thought journal. Write down your complaints, criticisms and any inner gossip that you hear going on in your head.
Once you acknowledge or write down the negative thought say, “FLIP IT!”
Repeat your three I AM words and feel yourself invoking their essence from deep within you. Breath, stand, and move to embody them fully.
68 seconds. It takes 68 seconds of a pure thought for that thought to become more magnetic. If you hold the pure embodiment for 68 seconds it will then interrupt the old flow and get you going in a new direction.
“What you do every day matters more than what you do every once in a while.”
Take one action every day that is small enough for you to commit to it, but big enough for you to learn to master your state and train your emotional intelligence.
